Veils Through The Ages

Wedding veils have long been a classical hallmark of weddings and are said to the oldest part of the bridal ensemble. They were once worn to represent untouched maidens and also to hide her away from evil spirits. Nowadays, the bridal veil creates a sense of drama and elegance as well as providing those amazing magazine quality photo opportunities!

Over the ages veils have changed shapes and designs, with cap veils popular in the 1920s, birdcage veils in the 1940s, extravagant and volumous veils in the 1980s and the minimalist veil returning in the 2000s. No matter the look, the veil has always been a statement and will continue through time.

Dreamtime Designs have been designing, creating and handmaking wedding veils for over 25 years and have a style to match any type of wedding gown and aesthetic.

How to choose A Veil?

Congratulations on finding your perfect dress! Now to find the perfect wedding veil to compliment your gown. How do you do this? What do you look for? Where do you start? Fear not! We will help you figure out just what you are after!

For the majority of brides, this will be the first time you will wear a veil or you may have worn one for your communion or as a flower girl.

As a general guide, your veil should be chosen to compliment your wedding dress. This could be as simple as a timeless raw edge veil to showcase the beautiful detailing of your gown, or a lace edge veil that adds an extra bit of interest and elegance to your gown, or even a veil with crystals to give you that extra bling!

Make sure you also consider your hairstyle options when deciding on what type of veil you would like, and always remember to bring your veil and your hair accessories to your hair trial so your stylist will know exactly how the accessories will be placed and secured for your big day.

With all of this in mind, let’s take a look at the standard cuts and lengths.
